Use the checklist

Choose a classroom resource with a clear purpose

An educational download is most useful when it serves a specific lesson. Use this planning sheet before adding another printable or activity to your teaching folder.

Checklist

  1. Write the learning objective in terms you can observe. Decide what pupils should say, recognise or make, and how the resource will help you notice that learning.

  2. Check the reading level, instructions and materials required. Try the activity yourself and note where a learner may need modelling, extra time or an alternative way to respond.

  3. Plan a short follow-up question or task. Keep the resource only if it adds something to the lesson, and check the creator's usage terms before sharing copies beyond the permitted setting.

Questions and answers

How can I adapt an activity without making it longer?

Reduce the number of examples or change the response method while keeping the same learning goal. A small activity with clear feedback can be more informative than a full sheet completed without understanding. Record what worked for the next lesson.
