Use the checklist

Prepare a business legal-planning conversation

A legal-services promotion can point to issues worth discussing, but it is not a tailored legal plan. Use this worksheet to organise questions for a suitably qualified lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction.

Checklist

  1. List the business assets and relationships you need to understand: brand, content, contracts, ownership and future succession. Record what documents already exist without assuming they provide every protection you need.

  2. Describe the decisions you want to make and any deadlines. Ask which matters fall within the proposed engagement and whether other professional input is required.

  3. Request a written explanation of scope, fees and responsibilities. Keep promotional deadlines separate from the time needed to understand advice and agree an engagement.

Questions and answers

Does buying a package resolve every legal issue?

The answer depends on its scope and your circumstances. Ask what is included, excluded and dependent on further work. A marketing description cannot establish the protection of a particular business or substitute for individual advice.
