Questions before a cupping or bodywork appointment

Questions before a cupping or bodywork appointment

A description of cupping or traditional bodywork can mix cultural practice, personal experience and health claims. A question sheet helps keep those different kinds of information clear.

Work through the checklist

  1. Ask what the proposed session involves, who provides it and what training they hold. Request an explanation of likely marks, discomfort and aftercare.

  2. Explain relevant health concerns to an appropriately qualified healthcare professional. Ask whether the proposed practice could interfere with current treatment or require precautions.

  3. Check consent, privacy, cancellation arrangements and the right to stop. Write down any promised benefit and ask what evidence supports that specific claim.

A useful question

Does a testimonial establish effectiveness?

A personal account describes one person's experience. It does not establish that a treatment will work for you or replace a clinical assessment.
