Preparing to volunteer with an animal-welfare organisation
Animal-welfare roles require clear supervision and respect for animal needs. Use these questions before offering help or attending an introductory meeting.
Work through the checklist
Ask which roles are needed, the minimum age and any training or checks required. Describe your time and experience honestly.
Clarify handling rules, hygiene, protective equipment and how concerns are reported. Do not assume you may transport, feed or medicate an animal without authorisation.
Agree attendance, confidentiality and photography rules. For adoption enquiries, use the organisation's separate current assessment and application process.
A useful question
Can enthusiasm replace training?
No. Caring intentions are valuable, but safe participation depends on the role, instruction and the organisation's procedures.
