Use the checklist

Evaluate a local safety proposal

A local safety newsletter can contain reporting, advocacy and election material in the same issue. Keep those categories distinct when you read about Boulder or another community.

Checklist

  1. State the proposal in one sentence. Identify who would decide it, where it would apply and whether it is a suggestion, a campaign position or an adopted measure.

  2. List the evidence offered, including dates and definitions. Ask how the proposal's intended outcomes would be assessed and what information is missing from the account.

  3. Prepare a question about implementation, responsibility or access to public records. Use current official meeting information if you intend to participate, and avoid treating an advocacy summary as the full decision record.

Questions and answers

How can I write a useful response?

Focus on one specific action and explain the practical issue you want clarified. Distinguish something you observed from something reported by another person. Keep identifying details about private individuals out of a public comment unless they are necessary and appropriate to the issue.
