A writing worksheet for perfectionist expectations

A writing worksheet for perfectionist expectations

This reflective worksheet helps make a demanding expectation more specific. It is an optional writing activity, not an assessment or treatment for a mental health condition.

Work through the checklist

  1. Choose one ordinary task and write what you currently believe counts as finished. Identify which requirements come from an actual brief and which you added yourself.

  2. Describe a workable version that meets the real requirements. Choose a review point and a small next action rather than repeatedly restarting.

  3. Afterwards, compare what you expected with what happened. If distress or repeated difficulties affect daily life, discuss them with an appropriately qualified professional.

A useful question

Does lowering an expectation mean abandoning care?

You can still define necessary quality and safety requirements. The exercise asks you to distinguish those requirements from extra demands that have no clear purpose.
