Make an arts-audience research discussion more useful
Audience research is easier to discuss when the question, sample and decision are explicit. Use this meeting sheet when considering a report or sharing a question with an arts community.
Name the decision
Write the decision your team needs to make, such as choosing a programme format or improving access information. List the audience you need to understand and the information you already have. Keep an organisational preference separate from evidence about participants.
Read the research context
Record who was asked, when the work was done and how responses were gathered. Check whether results describe attendees, respondents or a wider population. A percentage without its denominator can be difficult to interpret.
Prepare a discussion question
Summarise one finding, one limitation and one question for further work. Avoid sharing identifiable participant responses in an open discussion. The Audience Outlook Monitor source pages provide the community context.
