Use the checklist

Review a website through a visitor's task

A website review is more useful when it follows a real task. Choose something a visitor should be able to understand or complete, then examine the page in that context.

Checklist

  1. Write the intended visitor and their main question. Check whether the heading and opening text make the purpose clear without requiring prior knowledge of the organisation.

  2. Follow the navigation and note unclear labels, missing information and dead ends. Review on a narrow screen as well as a larger one, using ordinary controls rather than assuming a polished image proves usability.

  3. Prioritise fixes by impact on the task. Separate content corrections from design preferences and record what you will check after a change.

Questions and answers

Where should I start if everything seems unfinished?

Pick one important page and one visitor goal. A clear title, useful explanation and understandable next step can make a focused improvement. Record actual observations rather than promising that a redesign will produce a particular search ranking or business result.
